Software Review - Kaleidoscope

Are you a designer, developer or photographer? Have you ever wanted to compare two files, whether hey are images or texts?

You could fire up Adobe bridge  to compare images or Dreamwaver for codes comparison. But those software are pretty big, they take a lot computer resources. Kaleidoscope is a new File comparison app for Mac. It’s made by Sofa which is an award winning Mac app developer. Kaleidoscope can spot the differences in text and image files. Let take a closer look.

Beautiful Design

One of the reason I love this app is because it’s beautiful. I love its colorful icon the simple interface. Even its Demo banner looks nice!

It’s very easy to use, simply drag and drop!

Images Comparison

Kaleidoscope supports all popular image file formats. For example: JPEG,TIFF,PNG, PSD etc. The Path bar expends when you hover on it, it shows where your files are located.

One of the 4 layouts in image scope mode is split view. It combine two images and split them, displaying one on each side. You cam drag any side of the line to split them any way you want.

One of the feature I noticed is Multi-touch support. I can pinch to zoom on my Mackbook pro. Also you can drag more than two files, they will be displayed in the File Shelf. Click on any file to set it as A or B.

Text Comparison

When I am coding websites, I always want to compare source codes. With Kaleidoscope you can compare Plain text, HTML, CSS, etc.

I love the Highlights. Red is deleted, Green is added, and Purple is changed text.

When you comparing texts, there are three layouts Blocks, Fluid and Unified to choose from. Another feature that make it stands out is the instant search feature. It’s Super Fast.

Its tab interface allow you have many comparison at the same time. switching between them is just a click away.

Final thoughts

Kaleidoscope is very powerful image comparison app for Mac. Also it can integrate with Git, SVN, Mercurial easily. Kaleidoscope sell for 29 Euros as an Introductory Price.  Whether or not you think it worth 29 Euros, the beautiful and easy to use UI and the blazing fast performance is what impresses me.
