StarCraft II Community Website Design

StarCraft II launched today! July 27th, 2010, twelve years after the original StarCraft. With the game launch, Blizzard also updated StarCraft II community website. Let’s take a closer look how is the website using web technology such as Flash and jQuery.

The overall design of the website is very “StarCraft”. For example the beautiful space artwork in the background, very detailed interface. jQuery and jQuery UI are used on the site. There is a jQuery slider on the font page for important news update.

In the Cast of Characters pages, you can find great use of Flash animations on the pages. In the screenshot above there are two Flash animations that keeps moving. Too bad when I tested on my iPod touch no Flash can be displayed, you will see the background image instead.

In the screen shot above, you can see a 360 rotate view model which is done in jQuery

It also used jQuery Lightbox for viewing large images. Note the style for the lightbox has the consistent interface design.

Interesting detail: Each race has a different shaped border.
